what have i been up to

not that anyone is really keeping track... except of course my mother who is burning the lines of our magic jack on a daily basis- whenever she can catch us online. anyway, it's been weeks ( i think ) since i've posted anything coherent here. summer has graced us with some remarkably scary doses of uva and uvb, i for one is a firm believer in nothing less than spf 30s. it's been way too hot and i can't believe i still haven't dragged my husband to the nearest body of water. work's been in the way the past few weeks (not that i'm complaining), and one of the realities of being a freelancer is grabbing every opportunity you can get- although in some cases, i learned that it's better to pause a bit and choose projects rather than accept last minute shoots that are just impossible to pull with such least amount of time for preparation, mentally and physically.

the past few days have been completely devoted to everything pizza, all in preparation for a "possible shoot" that's been looming over a week. i hate showing up at shoots unprepared and less than 8 hours of sleep. and believe it or not, i'm actually having fun obsessing with my pet project pizza r&d. just browsing the web made me realize the complicated scientific approach in making the perfect pizza- from the types of yeasts used, to mixing different kinds of flours, to that perfect fermentation technique. oh and of course, everything you need to know you can learn from www.monkeysee.com hehehe i am overwhelmed by the amount of information i am so willing to absorb from an endless list of how-to videos. my first few attempts on making dough from scratch is just pitiful. but i'm getting the hang of it and even find it somewhat therapeutic. complete focus on the task at hand is always a source of therapy for me. except when washing the dishes. i hate washing the dishes.

this year i told myself to "learn something new" every single week. do i even have the brain capacity? much of my education is all work related, and it isn't supposed to be entirely so. well to break the pattern, i finally got my friend to teach me how to make wire art jewelry! we bought the necessary materials and had my share of blowing the budget over beads to be used- there are just so many colors and shapes to choose from! much to my surprise, my first try was like painting a familiar subject. it was easy and natural and a completely new creative outlet for me. within 24 hours, i made 2 necklaces, 2 bracelets, and a brooch. not bad for starters. i'm almost out of wire so i finally got myself to stop. i think i've just discovered a replacement for my poker addictions... i'm posting photos next time.
